She holds a J.D. from Universidad de Chile (summa cum laude), and an LL.M. on Intellectual and Industrial Property and New Technologies from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She specializes in consulting and defending copyright and similar rights, invention patents, trademarks, industrial designs and other intellectual assets.

During the first years of her professional career, she was an associate in the litigation area at Alessandri & Cia. a renowned law firm in Santiago, Chile, acting on behalf of clients in order to protect their intellectual rights before civil and arbitration courts. Having completed her LL.M. on Intellectual and Industrial Property and New Technologies at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2012), she joined Carey, one of the country’s largest law firms, as part of the intellectual property litigation area, where she counseled clients on the strategic protection of artistic and industrial creations, and participated in trials of high technical complexity.

In 2019, she joined the National Institute of Industrial Property as Deputy Director of Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin, participating in legislative discussions on key topics in the area, and reviewing criteria on trademark registration and conservation.

Bernardita is also a professor of Intellectual Property and Commercial Law at the University of Los Andes, Chile, and has been invited as a speaker in numerous forums, such as keynote speaker in the Comisión de Sistemas de Conocimiento de la Convención Constituyente (2022) to expand on Intellectual Property, among others. She has been honored in her field of practice, namely, as an outstanding lawyer in Pharmaceutical and Biotech Law in the Ranking Leader Lawyers (2020), and a member of the Board of Experts of the Chilean Bar Association within the Intellectual Property field (2021).

Bernardita has advised an array of companies across the arts, design, editorial, cosmetic, food and services industries, assisting in the protection and registration of their trademarks. She has also assisted companies in the agricultural, fishing, mining industries with the definition of contractual vehicles aimed at protecting their intellectual assets. Finally, she has counseled individuals and other entities in the protection of copyright in preventive action or judicial.
